Collaborative filtering with del.icio.us

John Udell experiments with del.icio.us and a recommendation engine. The prototype of this software captures tags form users having the most link affinity with the author’s bookmarks then filters the ones having the most commonality.

I’m still playing with the two thresholds — personal affinity and link commonality — but the first cut at a synthesized recommendation feed looks like a promising way to identify an implicit community of interest and tap into its emergent group mind.
