House of Cards, 3D data only, music video by Radiohead

Radiohead — Tags: , , — THE HYPERGURU @ 6:41 pm

Google announced the release of a new music video by Radiohead: “House of Cards” released without any camera or light. It’s only raw 3D data scanned by lasers and sampled into pixels. A dedicated page on Google allows to play the video and to rotate and zoom interactively the head of the singer and two environments extracted from the video, included in Radiohead’s album “In Rainbows“.

Two technologies have been used to scan human heads and larger environments, using structure lights and lasers.

Totoro Forest Project: Save Hayama Forest

My Neighbor Totoro, Save The World — Tags: , , — THE HYPERGURU @ 2:33 pm

Totoro Forest Project is an international charity effort to preserve Sayama Forest, also known as Totoro Forest. This endangered sanctuary on the outskirts of Tokyo is where director Hayao Miyazaki got the inspiration for his much loved character “Totoro.” Over 200 top international artists from animation, illustration, and comics are donating artwork especially created for this cause. On september 6th 2008 Pixar Animation Studios will be hosting an art auction event featuring all these fantastic pieces of art. All the proceeds of this fundraiser will benefit the Totoro Forest Foundation. On top of the auction we are producing a wonderful art book of the auction pieces and we’ve also managed to secure an exhibition at the Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco.

The Kubrick FAQ

Stanley Kubrick — Tags: — THE HYPERGURU @ 2:29 pm

Stanley Kubrick is usually described as one of the most innovative and brilliant film directors of the 20th Century, but also as a legendary recluse and a difficult tyrant who demanded endless takes from his actors. So what kind of a man was he really? And why are his films so highly regarded? The Kubrick FAQ aims to answer the latter questions and debunk some of the stupid myths associated with the first. It is made up of postings from the alt.movies.kubrick newsgroup, as it was from 1996 to 2001. There are no later posting because after 2001 the group went into a period of decline from which it is unfortunately yet to emerge.
